Delegates Training

This training deals with a number of issues that will enable participants to understand the rights and role of the shop steward, current provisions, and the need for delegates to be organised in their jobs for the efficient and effective representation of workers.

The course content includes the following:
  • Rights and role of the steward
  • Role of unions
  • Problem solving/tactics
  • Site visits with Organisers
  • Training for building workers
  • Occupational health and safety
  • Industrial relations legislation
Delivery pattern:  One day a week over 6 weeks
 

Confined Space Awareness

This course is designed to provide workers with an understanding of the definition of confined space and the legislative framework associated with working in confined spaces. The course is intended to raise awareness of dangers associated with a confined space. It covers precautions which should be taken prior to entering and working in a confined space. Topics include the training, supervision and documentation needed to work in a confined space, and examples of equipment used during confined space work.

Please note that this training is strictly for awareness only. In order to work in a confined space, you need to have also completed the Course in Working Safely in Confined Spaces for Building and Construction (see below).

Course in Working Safely in Confined Spaces for Building and Construction

This course is designed to provide workers with the skills and knowledge to work in a confined space in a manner that is safe and without risks to health.  The unit has a practical component.
 
Pre-requisite: Confined Space Awareness training, Perform CPR

Course in Workplace Spotting for Service Assets

This course is designed to provide workers with an overview of the policy for working in the vicinity of power lines.  During this course, participants are introduced to their role and strategies for carrying out work as an Electrical Safety Spotter and reviewing risk assessment.  Workers wanting to undertake Electrical Safety Spotter training must have the relevant WorkCover Certificate of Competency, a current first aid ticket and CPR.
