Elevated Work Platform accidents cause death, injury

The CFMEU is saddened to report that member Kosal Chhen died in hospital on Saturday October 22 from injuries sustained in a workplace accident.

He was removing asbestos roofing sheets at the Toyota factory in Altona when he was crushed between the basket of the knuckle boom EWP he was using and a roof purlin.

Kosal had worked for ATS asbestos removal for 15 years. Investigations into the tragic accident are continuing.

Scissor lift goes over.
An electrician suffered serious back injuries when a scissor lift went over on the Probuild site at Broadmeadows, Saturday October  22.

Members are reminded to observe all safety instructions when using an EWP and to not move one while it is in an elevated position.

Both these accidents are reminders of the dangers of EWPs. All members are advised to read the CFMEU OHS Alerts about safe use of EWPs.
