Suspension or Resignation
Suspension
Members may suspend their membership account for any time that they will be out of the industry and not receiving pay.
Among many other reasons you may find it necessary to do so if you find yourself unemployed, injured, ill, overseas or interstate.
To suspend your membership you can call the CFMEU on 9341 3444, fax on 9341 3427, or email us with your full name, Union number and reason for suspension.
Please be aware that upon suspension we will continue to debit your membership account the applicable fees each 6 months, which will accrue until your return to the industry.
To re-activate your CFMEU membership please contact Head Office. We then ask that you show us proof of exactly how long you have been out of the industry so that we can remove any fees you were charged while not working. If you have proof that you have been out of the industry for three months or longer, a credit adjustment will be applied to your membership account.
All of our adjustments are made retrospectively and we ask that you show us this proof upon your return to the industry rather than upon your initial suspension of your membership.
Proof that you have been out of the industry can be in the form of a current statement from Incolink, Cbus, Centrelink, etc.
Resignation
In order to resign your membership with the CFMEU you need to state your intention to resign in writing.
Members should note that Clause 11 of the CFMEU Rules provides that:
'All contributions and or levies due in relation to the period before the member's resignation took effect are to be paid. Where the member fails to do so the Union may prosecute such member in the appropriate court for the recovery of that amount.'
In order to check the financial status of your membership account you can contact the CFMEU on 9341 3444.
All resignation letters (with your full name, Union number and reason for resignation) can be faxed to 9341 3427, emailed or mailed to:
500 Swanston Street
Carlton South
VIC 3053
A standard CFMEU Membership Resignation letter can be found here.
